COURSE DESCRIPTION

This 3-credit course introduces data analysis methods using the R programming language for statistics and focuses on a scientific topic important in bioinformatics.

PRE/CO-REQUISITES

See UNC Charlotte Course Catalog for details. 

Topics

    • Learn about a scientific area where bioinformatics plays a role.
    • Learn to use the R programming language for statistics to analyze a data set. 
    • Become fluent in literate programming using R Markdown.

INSTRUCTIONAL METHODS

    • Students complete homework assignments that build skills in R programming and data analysis.
    • Synchronous, on-line lecture: Mondays 2:30 to 5:15, EST (to join, see Zoom link at left for the upcoming class) 
    • Break starts at 3.45 pm till 4.00 pm

GRADING

Course grade based on completion of Parts 1, 2 and 3, as follows :

Grade A :

      • Complete Part 1 : Learn R & literate programming
      • Complete Part 2 : Explain or use a specialized R library
      • Complete Part 3 : Answer a research question using R and literate programming 

Grade B :

      • Complete Part 1 : Learn R & literate programming 
      • Complete Part 2 : Explain or use a specialized R library 

Grade C :

      • Complete Part 1 : Learn R & literate programming
