Watch: Dr. Keith Baggerly describes how he and his colleagues discovered a problem affecting patients seeking cancer care
Dr. Baggerly and colleagues at MD Anderson in Houston, Texas tried to reproduce the findings Drs. Nevins and Potti described in their seemingly groundbreaking papers.
However, they quickly realized that there were many, many problems with that work. Nonetheless, they persevered, in large part because the promises the work made were so exciting and potentially life-saving.
Unfortunately, the work turned out to be based on errors and possibly even fraud.
To understand how they learned the truth, watch these two lectures, given years apart.
